In this course we will study each aspect of deciduous / broadleaf bonsai from growing to styling. Dates are based on each stage of a deciduous / broadleaf trees development in relation to bonsai. Students will pot, clean, taper, trim, pluck, wire, and style in order to learn how to correctly maintain deciduous / broadleaf bonsai.
We’re very lucky to live in an area of Florida where temperate and sub-tropical trees can thrive. It’s just cool enough and not quite hot enough to really pose much of a challenge. This course will examine non-evergreen deciduous trees like maple and cypress, evergreen broadleaf trees like boxwoods and ilex, sub-tropical/tropical variety like serissa and jasmine, as well as many others. Students will run a gambit of broadleaf trees to better comprehend seasonal differences and time tables for work. In addition to wiring, clip-n-grow will be heavily utilized to create and advance material. The information covered applies to a wide variety trees suitable for any enthusiast.
Students are not required to supply their own material; this will be supplied by the nursery to ensure students can work within their abilities and time frame. Trees provided will be in all stages of development; young and old, large and small. You do not need deciduous or broadleaf experience and are welcome if experienced; this course is comprehensive and beneficial to anyone.

This course can be started on any of the course dates provided. Being a year long course, participants must register for 3 sessions, one in each season (winter, spring, fall). Dates for 2025 will be available late 2024. Once a session is booked, we will contact you for payment.
